Avast Users, Can You Answer This Please?

By antivirus software Posted in: AVG

Okay, first of all, I’m sorry if this is confusing, I don’t know how to really ask it. With AVG you had to program it to run a scan once a day to check for viruses. Do I have to do that for Avast, or is it good to go when I install it? And if I have to set a time for it to do a scan, how do I do that? And even if it isn’t required, is there a way to set a time for it to scan?
Again, sorry if this is confusing. With AVG, when you googled something, a green star would be next to every possible site to show if it’s safe or not. Does Avast have anything that shows that a site is safe or not before you click it? If you have no idea what I am talking about, these are the green stars that I’m talking about http://www.practicalecommerce.com/upload…
Thanks!!!

Avast is the best. You have chosen the right one. You don’t have to fix a particular time in avast for scan. It itself automatically scans your computer. It handles everything with itself. Just keep the settings as they are.
Now talking about the green stars which AVG shows while browsing. Avast does not show anything like that but works behind for that also. Don’t worry at all.
    Thank you very much !

You might want to try using Mozilla’s Firefox as your browser. It has an add-on (access from the Tools menu) called WOT that does what AVG does regarding safe-unsafe websites. By the way, Consumer Reports rated Avira AntiVir Personal as better than either AVG or Avast at detecting Web-based viruses. I switched from Avast to Avira for that very reason.

First of all, thank you for using upper-case letters and proper punctuation, which is all too rare on Yahoo Answers these days.
Avast has real-time protection which means it scans every file you open or execute and every web-page that you visit….as it happens. Avast *should* catch most , if not all malware BEFORE it can infect your machine.
Unless you do a lot of risky activity on the internet, like P2P file sharing, torrents and warez, you should be fine be simply performing a full system scan with Avast occasionally…maybe twice a month. And let the Avast Resident Shield and Web Shield take care of the rest in real-time.
No, Avast does not have a feature like AVG’s site checker or whatever they call it. But there is a similar app called SiteAdvisor that is free and does much of the same. Its free:http://www.siteadvisor.com/
Just be aware that these sort of apps that check search results often are not very useful. The information on them is often several weeks or months old and the realm of viruses and malware changes daily if not hourly. These things can help a bit but not a lot. They are NO panacea.

Maybe you’re referring to site advisor. Avast doent have it, but because of its shields, what it does is to block the malware directly, terminate the connection or move the malicious file into its virus chest (quarantine) depending on your settings. Its a real time scanner but you can set or schedule a periodic scan , depending on your needs, could be daily, weekly etc. otherwise it wont do a scanning by itself, unless it detects something.
in the interface, go to SCAN COMPUTER, and you will see several options from quick scan, full scan, removable media, folder, etc. But if you want to make yopur own schedule, click CREATE CUSTOM scan, at the lower right portion of the screen, there you can adjust settings accordingly, what time, daily, weekly etc, what folder, which to exclude , how sensitive your scanning will be . If you need some additional instructions, id be willing to assist you with what i know.
