Can I Add More Fish To My 29 Gallon Tank (not Overstocking)?

By antivirus software Posted in: Panda Security

I currently upgraded to a 29 gallon tank. The fish that I have so far are as follows:
(7) Tiger Barbs
(1) Red Tailed Black Shark
(2) Bush Nose Plecos
All the fish seem to be getting along well expect for my tiger barbs “occasionally“ try to fin nip my Red Tailed Black Shark. I was wondering if I can add more fish to my tank if possible without overstocking it. I want to add (3) panda Cory catfish and I was wondering if that would be alright, and would they get along with the fish I currently have?
My aquarium is filled with rocks and 2 hiding places and plants(plastic) on both corner sides of my tank.

you really should rehome the shark and one pleco, the shark gets too large and aggressive for a 30 gallon, and you should never have more than one pleco in a tank. Plecos are generaly peacful fish, but almost all species are aggressive to other plecos. they may act fine together for months, but some knight when no one is looking, they could get into a fight that could have fatal results.
Once those two fish are gone, you could add no less than 5 cories. they are schooling fish, and 3 is not a school., I would also add 1-3 more tiger barbs, they tend to be less agressive when they are in larger schools. Or at least they will start to ignore the other fish, and only be peckish to the other tiger barbs.
bristle nose plecos are dwarf species, they can grow to 4-6 inches. they are not modified, they are just a smaller species. They need driftwood in the tank to chew on, or they will not get the nutrients they need to survive.
I never had much luck with the more delicat cories in a tank with tiger barbs. you might consider adding 3-4 zebra loaches instead, they are hardy bottom feeders. they grow to a skinny 3 inches tops, and are active, nice looking fun fish.

yes you can get more fish, as for the fin nipping, tiger barbs will do that, they can be the more aggressive of the community fish . theres really not much you can do about it. if it was me i would get 3 more tiger barbs as well and have a nice school of them, you have the room and they do better in larger numbers like all community fish

You shouldn’t have more than 1″ of fish to every 2 gallons of water in tank. Your tiger barbs alone are about 18″ worth, so you are already overstocked. You need to change about 1/4 of the water every 5 – 7 days and vacuum the gravel at least every week to prevent high unhealthy levels of ammonia from building up.
Perhaps you could think about a second tank?

you could. No harm in trying a few fish. I tried guppy my self but they where so delicate that the filter the pet store recommended sucked their fins in and they drowned I had 4 X( they died..
But you could try something different. No harm in trying.

General rule of thumb is one inch per gallon based on max adult size.

You can add more. Provided you rehomed One pleco and the shark. The plec’s need 20 gallons a piece and the shark needs about 55 gallons.
