Does Avast Block Internet Threats Like Avg?

By antivirus software Posted in: AVAST

I have recently switched from AVG Trial version, to AVG Free 2011 but when I switched to free version it was blocking my internet access (I’ve heard this was because of firewall settings but I’m not sure). I changed my protection to a trial of Avast and I was wondering if Avast blocks threats from sites like AVG does (like those fake scanners and sites with malware). Also does it move threats into quarantine? I’m quite paranoid of viruses so I’d like to know that I’m protected.
Many thanks to any help!

yes avast does those things. plus some other things too like boot time scan. avast has hiher detection raTES than avg. you shd be fine with avast although you need to find out which av really does suit your needs.

LOL. Do you know that Avast is better than AVG? The free version of AVG doesn’t have an anti-rootkit. Only the paid version does. The free version of Avast have that.
And to answer your question, neither of the two blocks internet threats as both don’t have firewall features. Only their Internet Security versions have firewall but they are not free. If you want a free firewall, use Comodo:http://www.comodo.com/home/internet-secu…
You are worried about fake scanners? I doubt if you can rely on the two as fake scanners are not virus. They are rogue programs and can easily get through your AV undetected. What you need to protect you from those fake scanners is a good antispyware like Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware but you have to get the Pro version if you want real-time protection. Its free version only gives you on-demand scanning, no instant blocking. See to compare:http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/mal…

AVAST! is at the very top of free AV programs and even kicks a** on many paid programs such as STOPZilla. The free version is a fully functional stand alone application, complete with real time protection.http://antivirus.iyogi.com/avast/help-su…
