Does Microsoft Security Essential Update Itself?

I always manually update my MSE because even though I am connected to the internet for a long time it seems not updating often unlike my previous NOD 32 antivirus or Norton. It’s getting annoying to update it from time to time.. does it update by itself? how? tnx

    All AV’s free, or otherwise update themselves, if they don’t, they are not worth a crap.

    Its automatic update is not available I guess. But when an update is needed to be checked it flags in different color in system tray.
    That time if we are connected to internet we can download the update.
    I think its not a big deal if you do it frequently. And its always better to have manual update because some times you need more internet band width and if at this time this antivirus or any automated process starts downloading your work gets stuck.
    Better to have manual update so that you can choose that suitable time when you need low internet bandwidth.

    You should change the update settings and allocate them to the hours when you are at work, e.g change to 10:00 am when you know you start work at 8:00 am but so far your timer for updates might be after 06: pm when you are already out from work.

    Yeah latest version of Microsoft security essentials update itself,you should check that you are not using old version.
