How To Get Rid Of My Computer Threats?

By antivirus software Posted in: Norton

I was on my computer and this Norton Security Scan popped up asking me to get a scan to check my computer for threats and after I’d scanned it told me I had 87 threats. I tried scanning a week after and it said I had 30 threats, then the day after it told me I had 98 threats. It shows me the threats that I have and they’re all cookies. Luckily it said it was a LOW RISK but I’m still concerned. How should I get rid of them?

If you already have an antivirus software, go to control panel programs and features/add or remove programs (XP) and remove the Norton scanner.
The Norton scanner gets downloaded without you noticing sometimes when you download some other software which includes the Norton scanner.
You can uncheck it so that it doesn`t download, but it`s not always so noticeable.
After you`ve removed Norton, do a scan with your own av, also download Malwarebytes (free) and do a scan with that to make sure your computer is safe.http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebyt…
If you don`t have av, download Microsoft security essentials (free)http://www.filehippo.com/download_securi…

Norton may have already quarantined the infected files.
However, almost every antivirus asks you what to do with the threats during or after the scan.

Norton will give you an option to delete these cookies – delete them!
Should be easy and take care of you issue.
    Best of luck!

Disable or uninstall Norton….. Install Kaspersky or AVG (even a free edition will work) and then scan the whole computer! after that u can move to ur Norton again or continue with any of them!

First of all you should un-install Norton Security Scan… I bet that you recently installed some free software (Adobe Flash, Java) and you did not bother to uncheck the additional “stuff” that it was installing. There is absolutely NO NEED to have this Norton Security Scan on your computer…it is basically advertising. Your anti-virus software will already be taking care of things….you *DO* use anti-virus software don’t you?
Any cookies are NO RISK, not LOW RISK….No offence, but it sounds like you are quite computer illiterate, other than Facebook of course. But try and understand this:
Cookies are just small .txt (text) files that cannot hurt your computer. Cookies are “set” by almost EVERY web-site that you visit, on every visit. You can delete all your cookies today and by tomorrow you will have dozens again just be visiting web-sites. Cookies are what lets you sign into websites, like Yahoo, without needing to enter your username and password every time you visit
Cookies do NOT slow down a computer, at least the first million or so that you might have on your computer!
They are not a virus infection or spyware, but SOME people consider “tracking” cookies to be a minor invasion of privacy.
These tracking cookies are “3rd party cookies” from advertising servers. They can track your computers movements around the web in order to deliver to you customized, targeted advertising, based on your web-surfing habits.
It all depends upon ones personal level of paranoia, whether one considers tracking cookies some kind of threat. Some anti-spyware programs do not even report tracking cookies as even a minor threat.
If these tracking cookies DO bother you AND you are using Internet Explorer for a browser, a simple change of a setting can let you permanently block all 3rd party (tracking) cookies. (Much easier then constantly removing them!) Go to tools > internet options > privacy > advanced > check-mark “override automatic cookie handling” > third party cookies > tick “block” > ok > ok. Leave “Always allow session cookies” checked. Leave First party cookies set to “accept”.
    Good luck…have fun.
