I’m Thinking Of Resetting My Pc To Factory Defaults, Can I Keep My Microsoft Office 2010?

By antivirus software Posted in: Norton

my computer has been really screwed up lately and I’m thinking of resetting the operating system, but keeping my files (but I will have to re-install programs)
I know I am able to re download my Norton security, but I’m worried that I will lose my Microsoft office 2010. I only had a one use code and I have used it, but is there some way I can get it to realise that it’s the same computer?

if office 2010 came installed with the computer it is on a different partition on the hard drive then the operating system so you shouldn’t lose it. and even if you do it should be on your restore disks so you would be safe there. and yes, your code will still work after you reset your computer to factory settings.

yeah,if it came with your pc, the code will still work, if you downloaded it, just make a copy of it to reinstall, and yes,a system restore will reinstall all factory programs, BUT, I always had trouble after a restore cause it changed some setting back and a lot of my other programs would not work right until I reinstalled them, so I always recommend a FULL SYSTEM RECOVERY, not a restore, but its your call.

If you burn it to a CD, or store it on an external hard drive, you can put the file back on it again just like how it was before.

You could contact M$ and see if they will cooperate on duplicating your license.
But why destroy what you have now? A Repair Install will just replace system files and not change any applications or data that you have made. Google for instructions for your OS.
After, you can scan with Avast!, or Trend Micro Houscall, or Malwarebytes (all free)
The do Spybot Search & Destroy and Zone Alarm, Adaware from Lavasoft if you really need it.
And get rid of that Norton crap, all of it. Almost useless and I bet it really makes your “computer really screwed up”. I never use it.
Edit: Dan you are not familiar with Repair Install. You may need Administrator access You can create a new User and make it an Administrator, and delete other users. Then you could do the Repair Install. You need to boot through a system installation disk, just as if you were beginning with nothing on the hard drive.
Then you do the Repair Console activity. This is like a fresh install, but only system files are copied onto the default places on the boot partition of the hard drive.
    See Google search Repair Install:
