Never give anything without the recommended dose from the vet. They will advise you and it’s free…then you know FOR SURE.
In the mean time, pick up some AVEENO Oatmeal liquid bath soap (for humans) and give her a warm (remember their body temperature is higher than ours) bath using this soap to suds her up well. As she is soapy, take a small very gentle brush (the ones that have a lot of soft brissels) and brush her gently while she is warm and soapy. This will loosen dead skin easily and gently.
I would recommend feeding her a grain free food. Blue Buffalo Wilderness is excellent and so is Wellness Core. they are the only 2 we have used and both create luxurious coats, so you know the skin is healthy.
Many tmes these are symptoms of a grain allergy. I am not vet. Just speaking from experience. I have 4 at home, all are rescue or puppy mill and we have gone thru this skin thing with everyone of them. I think it comes down to nutrition.

Yes, it is safe to give regular Benadryl to dogs. The correct dose is 1mg per pound of body weight (25lbs=25mg, 50lbs=50mg, etc.). Most of the antihistamines that veterinarians prescribe are far more potent than Benadryl so it won’t hurt your dog. You can start by giving 1 dose in the morning and 1 at night, but if the problem continues or gets worse, she’ll need to be evaluated to see what the underlying issue is.

You should call your vet and ask just to make sure, but I’ve given my dogs benadryl multiple times for their allergies. I also checked with my vet prior to ensure I was giving the appropriate dose. A large part of skin allergies comes from food. Try switching gradually to a grain free food such as taste of the wild. All of the cheap fillers in commercial dog foods are known to cause skin problems. If the problem still persists your vet can give your dog a shot every 2 months can contain the itching. Good luck

You really need to have her diagnosed by your vet. She may need some antibiotics and just because you don’t SEE fleas does not mean she doesn’t have a flea allergy.
In some dogs, just ONE bite of a flea will set their whole system off.
I give my dogs Benadryl every day because of pollen allergies which are very bad in Florida.
I use one 25 mg tablet per 25 pounds. My dogs range from 10 to 17 pounds so I just use the one tablet for them and 2 tablets for my 50 pound dog.
I am not going to tell you it is okay because I don’t have a license to prescribe any type of medication but I can tell you my vet has prescribed it for my dogs.

You need to consult with your Vet about that. Yes, sometimes it is advised to administer Benadryl, but that’s only if the one who is advising it is your Vet. In the long run, you’ll need to find out what the underlying problem is so that it can be fixed, not covered up by drugs.

A bit of benadryl wont hurt the dog – make sure to use the proper dosage: http://benadrylfordogs.net/benadryl-dosa…
However, if that does not clear it up, I would suggest consulting with your vet.

Benadryl can be given to dogs as long as it prescribed by a vet..don’t just give it to your dog without knowing the correct dose, it may end up doing more harm then good.
    Give your vet a call..
