Is This Book Worth Money?

By antivirus software Posted in: NORMAN

Hi I have a boy scout book with a
Norman Rockwell painting on it. On the cover it has 50 cents on it it’s a boy scout handbook for boys does anyone know how much it’s worth?

I know which one you are referring to – I have a couple copies.
Its worth about $3 if its in good condition – a collector might pay as much as $15 if it is in exceptional mint condition (*no* spine creases, no page wear, no stains, no tears, etc)
    Average (a boy used it for 2 years ) condition – $1 to $2.

More than likely it is worth little to nothing. Just because something is old doesn’t mean it is worth anything. The factors that give a book value is it’s popularity, whether or not it’s a first edition, it’s condition, and if it was a limited run.
If it’s a boyscout handbook, that already makes it obvious that it was not a limited run and there are likely thousands of them out there. What you need to do is look inside the book for a publishing date to see how old it might be or anything else that makes it unique; however being a boyscout handbook chances are it is not unique, unless it was one of the first ones ever printed.

I expect a lot will depend on ‘condition’. I think it will be worth more if:
    a) It is in ‘mint’ condition
    OR
    b) It has notes or something scribbled by someone famous, maybe like “Good Luck Jimmy! (signed) Norman Rockwell.
    OR
    c) Provenance. Something like ‘This is the handbook which is shown in the move “Rin Tin Tin”.’

    I would think its about 15 – 20 dollars.
Google the name of the book and google how much it is!
