Looking For The Name Of A Novel Based In The Years After The Normans Conquer England?

One of the main characters is a Norman knight who has a war horse who he has trained to bite everyone. There are two sisters I think who live with their family at a castle or large manor house. It is very detailed in the daily workings of the house. The story begins with the sisters waking in the fridgid winter and getting to work in the store rooms. By my description it would seem like a romance but it is a really lovely historical fiction. I seem to remember the cover looked similar to the painting The Kiss by Gustav Klimt.
