Norton Antivirus Freezing Computer?

Every time I leave my computer idle for 20 minutes or so, a little pop-up appears saying Norton is currently performing background tasks. This completely freezes my computer to the point where i cant even open the task manager all I am able to do is move to mouse, I have to reset it everytime.
Why does it do this? Can I turn off these background tasks, what are they even doing?

    For now click on the Norton icon, click Computer Settings and turn the idle time scan off. If you have a subscription make sure that the automatic update is on and let it update itself. Also if you have a subscription go to their support and report this.
    If you have let the subscription expire and you don’t intend to continue, uninstall it.
    At the same time look at the amount of RAM memory you have. It sounds to me like you have less than 1gb when you really need about 3gb.

    Get ride of Norton. dont waste your time with it or the Following
    Mcaffee
    avira
    avg
    microsoft security essentials
    norton
    the free ones listed above i have seen let more viruses thru than sitting in a waiting room at a doctors office. and Mcafee will Lock you computer until it has complete control over everything and block out every administrative function.
    these i know for sure do work i would use any of them
    Trend Micro
    kaspersky
    avast internet security (not free)
    remember just because its free doesn’t mean its kept up to date.

    Norton antivirus is nothing more than commercial crapware.
    remove that garbage from your computer.
    i suggest you use the free version of Avira or microsoft security essentials.
    both have higher detection rates than Norton.
    and both are less intrusive.

    Norton’s company Symantec source code has been stolen by hacker’s so that company have paused all the products for a while .They have bug and they are recovering it.There are other softwares also like COMODO,AVAST,AVIRA,Kaspersky

    Why you use Norton Antivirus? It is very heavy software, it reduce your computer’s speed. Try Kaspersky antivirus. It is better than Norton Antivirus.
