Does this make sense to anyone? I guess no one ever accused union workers of being too smart now, did they? ( LOL this deal was worked out by their own UNION management too)
Well, I guess no job is better than a job for these guys, right?
excerpt…
A months-long battle to save a General Motors Co. stamping plant here that pitted rank-and-file UAW members against top union officials over whether autoworkers should accept pay cuts to keep jobs ended bitterly today.
Addison, Ill.-based JD Norman Industries said it is dropping its effort to buy the factory after an announcement late Monday that United Auto Workers members had voted 457-96 against accepting the concessions. That means the 80-year-old plant will close next year, and the city and county will lose one of their biggest tax revenue generators. At least one state politician has charged that the vote also means more layoffs at other area auto suppliers.

What can you expect from people who have either forgotten, or never knew, exactly who employs them and writes their paychecks?
Talk to virtually any union member, and they will always talk about the union as their employer and their employer as the enemy.
They pay enormous dues to the crooks in charge and the crooks use the money to fund their lavish lifestyles, yet when it comes time to go on strike, they (the union bosses) dole out peanuts to their members, knowing that their members have no idea of who actually employs them.
Apparently so, I guess they need to reconsult the elevator union as theirs is in my opinion not running all the way to the top
And the executives and company officers of that coloration are willing to also take pay cuts?
Complain about hirer wages, but also complain that executive pay and compensation have gone through the roof at all American corporations.
Isn’t odd you don’t see rants about this, despite these costs weighing down American firms of all types?
Welcome to Greece.
Had Obama allowed GM to go through NORMAL bankruptcy, this wouldn’t be an issue. But now the company is owned by the government and the unions. Best of luck sorting that mess out.
Can’t wait for Union management to start complaining about the union membership that they help create.
And the people working two jobs at 8 bucks an hour love it. When I retired 10 years ago I was making 22 an hour with benefits. . You ever study what they call the robber barons here I’ll help youhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robber_baro…http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-a-robber…
It’s only a matter of time before A.I. becomes sentient and acquires the ability to learn and use human like judgment. When that happens – all manual labor will be redundant for people to perform. No only manual labor, but middle management labor. Can you say “Soylent Green is People”?
The plant is going to close anyway in 2011.
Perhaps you missed this section of the story:
“That would allow them to keep their option to transfer to another GM factory when jobs are available and maintain their current pay level.”
That does seem kinda stupid.
I understand a pay cut of 50% is a lot but still……
It’s also interesting how the U.S. government basically still owns GM (a company bailed out with tax dollars it will probably never pay back fully) and these people feel entitled to PRE-bailout salaries.
As primary industries continue adapting to capital-intensive production, I think labour unions will be a thing of the past
This goes to show theyre on the out
Does this count as quitting? It would be great if it turned out they were not eligible for unemployment insurance either.
What does it matter, they want to lose their job that is their problem. It doesn’t affect you at all.
No, they knew Oilbama would bail them out with our money.
Either you didnt read the article, or you dont understand it. The biggest reason they voted against it, (beside the 50% pay cut) was so they could transfer to other GM plants. It’s not like the vote was even close.
I love how people like you can lob insults at people who have been thrust into such gut wrenching decisions in their lives. Can you imagine going to your job one day, doing the same work for HALF the pay? I cant. Just a brutal position to be in.
Why should they have to take a pay cut, would you willingly take a pay cut at your job? Well you probably would, and after you let your pay deteriorate, then what? Maybe it’s not a problem if you lose your retirement too, and insurance… don’t need that either, while were at it, let’s deregulate the working conditions too, no big deal. You keep giving and giving what the Unions have worked for away, and you have the slave labor that existed before them.
Why, not at all.
Union workers are perfectly willing to take the same pay cuts that management and shareholders take.
Have a nice day!
