  1. Ted Pack Says

Corbet le Normand is French for “Corbet The Norman”. His given name was Corbet. There were enough Corbets running around at the time they needed to distinguish him from Corbet the Baker, Corbet the Carpenter and Corbet who lived near the Marsh, so, since he was from Normady, he became Corbet the Norman. it is what passed a sa surname back then, more or less. There are people today with surnames Norman, Baker, Carpenter and Marsh.

  2. Joyce B Says

Le Normand was not a given name. Many of the era did not have surnames, so using additions like Le Nornand identified Corbet as coming from Normandy at the time of William the Conqueror.
His sons were called Fitz Corbet, meaning son of Corbet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corbett_(su…

The Normans were basically a group of Vikings who learned to speak French, who at the battle of Hastings, led by a guy named William in 1066 defeated the native anglo-saxon English and declared themselves rulers of the British Isles.
Corbet was one of those guys.
