In other words does not slow down your computer while it is scanning your computer. My current computer has a 30 day trail of AVG. My computer turned off the original anti virus software program on the computer (it was McAfee), because slowed the computer down so much the computer decided to shut it down, and made me install a new one which is the 30 day trail of AVG.
I heard people complaining about AVG, and free things only do so much when it comes to keeping your computer safe. I am on my older computer right now, which is an XP.

Avoid AVG and McAfee, as they are inefficient and have too many false positives. Norton (current version) is quite good, but your best alternatives for paid antivirus are Kapersky or NOD32. Make sure you completely uninstall AVG and McAfee before you install your new one.https://www.kasperskyanz.com.au/http://eset.com.au/

One also has to consider their hardware. While Norton may run crappy on one pc, may run just fine on another.
Are you running a dual core cpu? quad core? how much ram? hard drive type?
I use Vipre at home. And it seems to do well. But I also run a quad core cpu and 6gb of ram with windows 7 ultimate.
try eset NOD32, efficient and lightweight
I use NORTON. I am happy, don’t care or slight delay is not a problem at at all.
