I have the exact same issue and I want to discredit the spammers pushing bogus “Registry Cleaner” software. I worked on the same model computer (Toshiba Satellite L355 laptop) and performed a factory restore to resolve a different issue. After that, Norton / Symantec trial was removed and Microsoft Security Essentials was installed. After that, the computer would have attempted to perform updates. The owner says it has not worked since that night. Like the other Yahoo Answers user, the computer is locking up within minutes of starting-up…every single time.

As to why you can’t answer it, most likely it was not OPEN any longer. Questions are only open for a limited time (4 days, unless the asker chooses a Best Answer even sooner than that).
