Write An Equation For Each Question. Then Use That Equation To Answer The Question.?

1. The population of a panda colony was 150 in 2001. If the annual rate of decrease is about 3%, what will the population be in 2016?
2. In 1890, ten thousand people lived in California. If the annual rate of increase was about 1.5%, what was the population of California in 1990?

    1. P=number of pandas y= number of years after 2001
    P=150(1-.03)^y P=150(.97)^y
    So 2016-2001= 15 so in 2016,
    P=150(.97)^15 which is about 95 pandas.
    2.N= number of people. y= years after 1890
    N=10,000(1+.015)^y 1990-1890=100
    N=10000(1.015)^100
    N= around 44,320 people.
